Diarrhea is often associated with what you eat. It means that your bowel movements are frequent, watery, and loose, and you have them more than 3 times per day.

Everyone goes through this, it’s common and usually not serious. Diarrhea usually lasts about 1-2 days, but maybe longer.  It may go away on its own, but acute or long-lasting diarrhea may lead to dehydration and should be treated.

Diarrhea may also be a symptom of some health conditions, such as IBS.

  1. Most cases of diarrhea are caused by bacteria, viruses, or parasites

  2. Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis can cause chronic diarrhea

  3. Antidiarrheal medications can reduce diarrheal output and zinc supplement is effective in children

  4. Some nutritional and probiotic interventions may help prevent diarrhea

  5. Alcohol abuse may also cause diarrhea

What you probably didn’t know is that hormones influence the muscles of the intestine too. That’s why you have some conditions with the digestive tract during the time of your cycle when there are shifts in your hormonal balance.

Estrogen is one of the main female hormones that takes part in many vital processes in your body, including in your intestine. That’s why if you feel that your stool is a little loose during PMS or ovulation, it may be estrogen-related.

You are more likely to experience diarrhea during pregnancy. This also takes place due to the hormonal fluctuations in your body.
