Do you put on weight before your period?

If right before your period your bathroom scales show that you weigh a few extra kilos, don’t panic.

This happens due to water retention that occurs because the levels of your hormones start to fluctuate. It is completely normal, and every woman goes through this every cycle.

Some women feel edema more than others because of their nutrition, namely the lifestyle mistakes they make. There are certain products that retain water in your body, such as sweet drinks, alcohol, salty products, fatty foods and junk food, chips etc.

If you have edema and you’re pregnant, you should contact your doctor, as water retention can lead to certain health conditions. Your ob-gyn is most likely to ask you to measure your blood pressure at least twice a day and control the protein content in your urine.
