Pain in the lower part of your body near the anus and vagina, or perineum ache, is a common condition after childbirth. Postpartum ache occurs because of a tear or episiotomy while delivering a baby. An episiotomy is a surgical incision in your perineum to enlarge the birth channel.
Although you might not always see it, you can still experience pain. It is accompanied by swelling and it will probably hurt the most on the second day. Perineal pain usually eases in 7 or 10 days, and it might feel strange when going to the toilet for the first time, but it is safe. The perineum is expected to heal in a month (up to 6 weeks), but sometimes it will take 6 months for you will feel completely fine.
