Water retention: 7 simple methods to minimize edema

A few days prior to their period, some women may notice slight weight gain or edema in the legs. 

It feels uncomfortable and may cause you discomfort at home or at work. Edema is caused by PMS-related water retention that happens in your body right before the arrival of your period due to hormonal fluctuations. 

These simple tips should ease your period-related edema. 

  1. Drink more water daily, but not before you sleep

  2. Avoid salty products

  3. Avoid sugars

  4. No fatty food 

  5. No junk food 

  6. Eat more fiber that is found in fruits and cereals

  7. Eat more protein 

Water retention can also be caused by other illnesses, such as heart or kidney diseases, as well as low physical activity and meds.
