Sport and Ovulation

Every active woman should know how sports and the menstrual cycle are connected, and which physical activity suits each part of the cycle. Ovulation is the phase of the menstrual cycle when hormone activity is highest due to oocyte release and happens on approximately the 14th day of the cycle (assuming a 28 day cycle).

Estrogen begins to decline after the peak and progesterone levels surge. During ovulation women often feel warmer than during the rest of their cycle. Metabolism processes start to increase, while insulin sensitivity begins to decrease.

In this period, a woman’s body is ready for intense training, including cardio exercise.

According to some data, a change in balance leads to a softening of the tendons and cartilage, which increases their elasticity and the risk of injury. Exercise during ovulation but be cautious.
