Signs Of Ovulation That Every Woman Should Know

Any woman who gives special attention to the matter of family planning, carefully tracks her menstrual cycle, trying to determine the time of ovulation. For some, it's a chance of conceiving a child, for others, it's a signal to take additional protective measures.

First of all, it's necessary to remind ourselves what the process is like. It's the release of a mature egg as a result of a dominant follicle rupturing in one of the ovaries. It should be noted that the occurrence of ovulation determines the level of a woman's reproductive health and her capability of conceiving a child.

Expert-tests are the most reliable way of identifying if you are ovulating, but women should also know that during this period there might be symptoms that negatively affect their well-being, which is absolutely normal.

1. An increase in basal body temperature.

For women planning a pregnancy, keeping a body temperature log is a part of the daily routine. It is measured in the morning (in the mouth, vagina or rectum) around the time the woman gets up. During the first half of the cycle (the so-called follicle phase) 36,6оС is considered to be the normal temperature. At the moment of the release of the egg, it increases to approximately 37,0-37,2оС, after which it slightly decreases.

2. Slight weakness

A healthy body may have no reaction to the occurrence of ovulation, and experiences no body temperature changes and skin rashes. However, many women experience some weakness and a dragging pain in the lower abdomen, mainly on the side where the follicle ruptures.

This is explained by the enhanced synthesis of prostaglandins - substances that are produced in the uterus for the enhancement of its contractions. These substances contribute to the release of the egg and an increase in the fallopian tubes' motor activity.

3. Vaginal bloody discharge.

The occurrence of ovulation is accompanied by the decrease of estrogen levels (female sex hormones) and this is the cause of vaginal bloody discharge in the middle of the menstrual cycle. The reduction of their concentration causes the rupture of the dominant follicle accompanied by damage to the capillaries. The blood that comes out of them naturally leaves the body along with a small amount of endometrium detachment.

It's worth remembering that in the middle of the cycle, vaginal discharge doesn't have an intense scarlet color- it is predominantly a bright pink or dark brown color and also has uniform consistency (without any lumps). You shouldn't be scared of this phenomenon, as it's temporary and lasts from a few hours up to 1-2 days.

It should also be noted that sometimes it can be confused with body discharge, which is a process that accompanies the implantation of the fetal egg in the inner surface of the uterus. Ovulatory bleeding occurs in the middle of the menstrual cycle, whereas the implantation bleeding occurs 2-3 weeks after ovulation.

Also, take into account the fact that the above-mentioned symptoms are typical of not only ovulation but also of some diseases. Therefore, in case of any discomfort, it's best to consult a certified specialist to eliminate the possibility of other health problems.

A woman's body is complicated and sometimes unpredictable. However, in most cases, it sends the necessary signals. What's important is to be careful and listen to your own feelings. If women manage to determine the approach or onset of ovulation, some of them will fulfill the dream of becoming loving mothers, while others will be able to avoid undesirable consequences.
