Sexual Intercourse During Menstruation: Yes Or Not?

Pain and discomfort often accompany the first days of the menstrual cycle, due to which most women consciously refuse to have sexual contact. However, there are a lucky few who experience no discomfort at all during their period. So, if a man doesn't have any psychological restrictions holding him back, there's no point in turning down the opportunity for pleasure, especially given the fact that there are also some positive aspects to it.

During an act of physical intimacy, a woman's body produces two substances capable of reducing the unpleasant manifestations of menstruation, including pain:

-endorphins that improve the mood;
-oxytocin, which cause feelings of peace, attachment to their partner and relaxation that's important on each day of the cycle.

Increased production of estrogens is another advantage, as it is exactly this phenomenon that minimizes the physical manifestations typical of menstrual discomfort. The risk of conception at this period of the cycle is minimal (provided that its duration is no less than 28 days). Besides, the problem of vaginal dryness is naturally solved, that is to say, there is no need to use lubricants anymore. Nevertheless, there are 3 nuances for women to consider.

1. Proper hygiene

During the rejection of the endometrial layer, the inner side of the uterus is an open wound. This means that it becomes more susceptible to infections. The cervix is half-open, which, in its turn, considerably reduces protection, just like the lack of cervical mucus.

2. Barrier contraception

Even if the possibility of conception is minimal, hormonal contraceptives don't act as a barrier to infections. It should also be noted that a shortened or irregular menstrual cycle is often accompanied by early ovulation, thus, if the woman doesn't take contraceptives, the occurrence of pregnancy becomes more likely.

3. Place choice

Everyone knows that atmosphere is as important as a playful mood. Plan a romantic evening that might continue, paying special attention to the choice of location, and considering the fact that at this period, there is a lot of excreta that might spoil surfaces.

With proper attention to your sensations and care for yourself, sexual intercourse during your period might be not only possible, but can also increase frankness and trust in a couple's relationship. If the partners are ready, there is no reason for giving the idea up. Especially, considering the fact that according to some specialists, menstruation can pass faster, as sexual intercourse increases the production of estrogen, which, in its turn, improves well-being.
