Oily skin is something that we feel on our face. It may seem waxy, shiny, and greasy to the touch. It may also clog your pores and cause acne. Wearing makeup on oily skin can be quite a challenge.

Our skin produces a waxy, oily substance to protect and hydrate the skin. It is called sebum and is made by the sebaceous glands. When there’s too much sebum in your skin, it becomes oily.

Managing oily skin often requires a regular skin care habit.

  1. Wash your face every morning, evening, and after exercise. Don’t scrub your skin - even to remove makeup.

  2. Choose skin care products that are labeled “oil free” and “noncomedogenic.”

  3. Use a gentle, foaming face wash instead of a strong one.

  4. Avoid alcohol-based cleansers.

  5. Apply moisturizer every day to keep your skin hydrated.

  6. Wear sunscreen outdoors, with anSPF of at least 30.

  7. Choose oil-free, water-based makeup.

  8. Remove your makeup before going to bed.

  9. Use blotting papers during the day to absorb the oil.

  10. Avoid touching your face throughout the day.

Your skin can become oily due to a hormonal imbalance. If these tips don’t seem to work, consult your doctor to find a different treatment.
